| Original Lionel black Virginian 2331's are super elegant in appearance, with traces of real gold used in the Virginian letteringCarrying a rarity rating of 6 on a scale of 1 to 8 (per the Doyle reference guides), most black Virginan's were shipped in sets and used extensively. This has resulted in Excellent, Like New, and Mint versions being virtually unavailable for many years. We believe they should be rated 7 out of 8 instead of a 6!From 12" distance this one looks like new but we graded it Excellent (C7) because of very small marks here and there along both sides of the bottom of the body, a paint rub on the walkway behind one of the cab doors, a ding in the yellow paint below the red FM symbol and black stripe, and two dings at the top of the first and third louver panels to the left of the Red FM symbolThe metal walkways have traces of rust/corrosion and a piece of the short railing at the front is missing; we left the original trim in place but call us if you want us to install new (but identical) metal partsWe try to describe everything about an item like this so you know exactly what you are getting, so please do not let ourHIGHLY MAGNIFIED PICTURES and detailed description detract from the overall outstanding appearanceBeing one of Lionel's most powerfuI locos, there are hardly any more elequent and high performance locos in our humble opinion DNS. |
